Will I always need to use my PIN?
You can change your PIN at any time
Your new Walmart MasterCard® card uses microchip technology, an advanced system
that uses a range of security features to help protect against fraud, identity theft and
counterfeiting. The chip system’s sophisticated technology requires a confidential PIN, only
you know, when you use the card.
How do I use my new chip-enabled card?
Your Walmart MasterCard card can be used one of two ways: Think of it as the new way and the old way.
New Way
At retailers with chip terminals:
Old Way
At retailers without chip terminals: Your chip card is swiped and you will be asked to
sign the receipt.
REMEMBER
For purchases made over the phone or online, continue to provide your card information the way
you always have. DO NOT provide your PIN.
Personalizing your PIN
While you are assigned a PIN, you will be prompted to change your PIN when you activate your card. Select a PIN that’s easy for you to remember. When setting your PIN, avoid using 4 sequential numbers, your date of birth, address and phone number.
Will I always need to use my PIN?
No. Not all stores are chip-enabled yet. In the meantime, some purchases on your Walmart
MasterCard card will still be made the old way.
You can change your PIN at any time
If your Walmart MasterCard card is ever lost or stolen, it cannot be used to buy anything without
your PIN being entered at chip-enabled stores. Chip technology virtually eliminates the ability to
copy the contents of the microchip to another card. For added security, you can change your PIN as often as you’d like. Forgot your PIN? We can resend you a PIN, just call us at 1.888.331.6133.
